The impact of technological change on professional work and professional regulation

In two current grant-funded projects, I am exploring the impact of technological change on professional work and professional regulation. One project (with Kathleen Leslie, Sophia Myles and RA Bruna Moraes) explores whether technological and workplace change is creating challenges for Ontario health professionals that current regulatory guidance and codes of ethics cannot support. Variations by employment status, work setting, and profession are explored through content analysis, interviews and focus groups. A second project (with Kathleen Leslie) explores how technological change is impacting the work of regulating professions across fields and provinces. This latter project involves both an online survey of regulators and in-depth interviews, as well as content analysis.
