Demographic and Health Surveys
- The DHS+ web site offers information on the status of DHS surveys currently in the field, descriptions of special surveys and research activities, and a searchable database of most of the DHS surveys that have been conducted over the past two decades. Datasets are available on the site for download by registered users. A publications database is also available. Also new is the STATcompiler, an on-line database tool that allows users to build customized tables from a combination of more than 60 countries and hundreds of indicatiors.
IPUMS: Integrated Public Use Mcrodata Series - International
- The data series includes information on a broad range of population characteristics, including fertility, nuptiality, life-course transitions, migration, labor-force participation, occupational structure, education, ethnicity, and household composition. The current version of the database describes approximately 202 million persons in 26 countries.
- Use of these data is restricted to scholarly and educational purposes. Potential users must agree to abide by specified rules for protecting the confidentiality of the data and apply for access.
Data Sharing for Demographic Research
- DSDR is a project of ICPSR in collaboration with the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Minnesota Population Center at the University of Minnesota, and the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan. The project is supported by the Demographic and Behavioral Sciences Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
- DSDR supports research investigators--both those who collect data and those who wish to use data--in dealing with complex data and data requiring special security.
- Data access procedures differ according to the type of data being downloaded and whether the user is affiliated with an ICPSR member institution. The University of Western Ontario is a member institution. You will need to create a user account in order to download the data.

- The Data Archive holds a number of specialized datasets, including: The World Fertility Survey (WFS) and Chinese Fertility Surveys, available for downloading. Other data sets include American, European and Latin American.
