Avison Appointed Editor

Prof. Avison Bill Avison has been appointed Editor of Society & Mental Health by the American Sociological Association. Society & Mental Health is a new publication that will be the official journal of the ASA Section on the Sociology of Mental Health. The journal will publish articles that apply sociological concepts and methods to the understanding of social patterns of mental health and illness, the social consequences for persons with mental illness, and the organization and financing of mental health services and care. Deputy editors are Carol Aneshensel (UCLA), Carol Boyer (Rutgers University) and Scott Schieman (University of Toronto). Avison’s appointment is from 2010 to 2012. SMH will be published three times per year with the first issue expected in early 2011.
