Boas to Mead - Jan. 4, 1926:

My dear Margaret,

I was very glad to receive your letter of November 29 containing the report of what you had been doing and I feel very much gratified by which you tell me.

I presume you will find out that [by] the time of your departure the people will become more and more attached to you and more and more willing to tell you what you want to know. I have had the experience during the last two or three days of obtaining more information than in any preceding weeks. Anyway I feel very much encouraged by what you tell me.

I assume that your letter was written before you received Dr. Goddard’s cable. Since you have the appointment in the Museum for next year, I assume that you do not want to be re-appointed as research fellow. For this reason I am not sending a new application on your behalf. If I should be mistaken, I want to ask you to send me a radio message. The single word "applied" would be sufficient. You must address it "Boas Columuni."

With kindest regards,

Yours very sincerely,

Franz Boas
