Centre for Population, Health and Aging 8th Annual Interdisciplinary Research Event

Deadline for poster proposals is May 20, 2011

The Centre for Population, Health and Aging (formerly the Population Studies Centre and Aging and Health Research Centre) will be hosting our 8th Annual Interdisciplinary Research Event on Friday, May 27, 2011 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

This is a great opportunity to share your research and network with faculty and other graduate students from across campus.

Graduate students are invited to submit an abstract on any topic or issue related to Population, Health AND/OR Aging. Posters on research that is in-progress or completed are welcome. Posters will be displayed and judged prior to our keynote address. Two $100 UWO bookstore gift certificates will be awarded for the best posters. The posters will also be displayed following the keynote during the free buffet lunch.

7th Annual Aging/Health Event - Call for Posters

The Aging & Health Research Centre will be hosting our 7th Annual Aging/Health Event on Friday, May 14th, 2010 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Posters will be displayed and judged prior to our keynote address by Dr. Peggy McDonough, Associate Professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Two $100 UWO bookstore gift certificates will be awarded for the best posters. The posters will also be displayed following the keynote during the free buffet lunch.


THE ANNUAL DR. BENJAMIN GOLDBERG RESEARCH AWARD

The Developmental Disabilities Division (DDD), Department of Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, The University of Western Ontario for the Academic Year beginning 2010/2011.

The DDD is pleased to announce a Research Award intended to provide seed money in awards of $500 to $3,000 to students who seek to gain a better understanding of the health and mental health conditions of people living with intellectual disabilities (mental retardation), thereby helping to improve the lives of individuals born with this condition.

Eligibility Requirements

The award is open to anyone registered as a student at a community college or university in Southwestern Ontario. Examples of fields of study include but are not limited to students or residents in allied health disciplines, Family Medicine, Nursing or Nurse Practitioners, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, or Psychology and may include graduate students in any of these programs or disciplines.

Interested candidates should submit:

  1. A preliminary one- to two-page application which includes an abstract (100-200 words) of your research proposal of the project; your name, address, phone number or email address, university affiliation, and a signed statement of support of your research project by your supervisor or advisor. The supervisor or advisor will have an academic affiliation, expertise in the student's area of interest, be familiar with the applicant's qualifications and know the significance of the proposed research.
  2. A statement of the project's relevance to mental retardation and intellectual disabilities, background, hypotheses, and methodology. May include research design and data analysis, sample size, and implications of your research.
  3. A one-page itemized budget on how the research award funding will be used. Project description cannot exceed 4 pages.

Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria and whose work is judged to be relevant to the mission of the DDD will be considered for funding support.

Research award recipients will be required to submit progress reports on their research and submit the research for publication or presentation at a conference.

The following rating criteria will be used:

  1. Applicant (marked out of 5; includes experience, ability to complete the project, resources, supervision, etc.)
  2. Project and Methodology (marked out of 5 points)
  3. Relevance to Developmental Disabilities (marked out of 5 points)

Proposals must be received by March 31, 2010. Recipients will be notified by May 31st and the projects can begin in the academic year beginning Sept. 2010. Project completion dates will depend on the project description.
